Thank you for visiting the website of The Junior League of DeKalb County, Inc. I welcome you on behalf of our 400 members who tirelessly work in the DeKalb County community to impact tomorrow today.
The Junior League of DeKalb County (JLD) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
Since 1934, JLD has been a positive force in DeKalb County.
We have identified and met many needs in the community. Our legacy includes many well-known non-profits and charitable organizations, such as Callanwolde Guild, Friends of Fernbank, the DeKalb Rape Crisis Center and the International Women’s House. In 1980 we saved the historic Mary Gay House in Decatur from destruction. It is now our League headquarters, as well as a beautiful rental facility.
Currently, we are focused on meeting the needs of foster children in DeKalb County. Our focus project, A Space of My Own, collects and distributes bedding and room accessories to hundreds of children in DeKalb County foster care. At the A Space of My Own store, children exercise independence by choosing how their space will look. They shop for new comforters, sheet sets, alarm clocks, lamps, decorative pillows, posters and stuffed animals. We are currently expanding our inventory to include toiletries, books and duffle bags.
Please join us for our annual fundraisers, Magnolia Market Days and Giving Gala/Silent Auction. The proceeds from these events benefit A Space of My Own, as well as our other community projects, such as Mini Grants for Excellence in Teaching. This program allows us to provide grants for DeKalb County teachers to fund special projects that enrich the classroom experience.
JLD is a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI), and organization of over 170,000 members in 295 leagues located in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom. Throughout its history, AJLI has worked with leagues to create initiatives, projects, leadership programs and institutions that improve communities all over the world.
Membership in JLD is open to all women regardless of age, race, color, religion, sexual orientation, disability or national origin who possess an interest in and commitment to volunteerism. As a provisional member, you learn first hand about our League’s work in the community and the ways we groom women leaders. We would love to have you join us!
